Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has suffered a fractured vertebra after escaping the country via small fishing boat.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was said to have sustained the injury last Monday during a high-risk sea crossing to Norway.
It comes a day after Ms Machado voiced support for Washington's pressure campaign against president Nicolas Maduro.
The injury to Ms Machado reportedly occurred due to severe weather affecting the vessel, including strong winds and large waves.
Norwegian daily Aftenposten reported doctors discovered she had suffered multiple wounds.
Ms Machado was interviewed in Oslo, where she arrived early Thursday after escaping her hide in Venezuela.
She said: 'We want every legal action through law enforcement approach, not only from the United States, also from other Caribbean, Latin American and European countries that further block the illegal activities of the regime.Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado (pictured) has suffered a fractured vertebra after escaping from Venezuela via fishing boat"
'Why? Because we need to increase the cost of staying in power by force.'
She added: 'Once you arrive to that point in which the cost of staying in power is higher than the cost of leaving power, the regime will fall apart, and it's the moment where we, you know, advance into a negotiated transition.'
Ms Machado was also asked about the possibility of US military intervention in Venezuela.
She said: 'I will welcome more and more pressure so that Maduro understands that he has to go, that his time is over.'
This is a breaking news story. More to come
