One general reported killed was a lieutenant general (two star), equivalent to a major general in the American, Canadian and British militaries. The remaining six are major generals (one star), equivalent to brigadier generals in the American and Canadian militaries and brigadiers in the British military.[3]

2-Andrey Sukhovetsky | Major General | 1 March 2022[9] | Deputy commander, 41st Combined Arms Army. Shot by a sniper at Hostomel[10][11] on 28 February 2022.[12][13] Had previously been involved in the Russian military intervention in the Syrian civil war, and 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea.[14] His death was reported by a retired Russian intelligence officer on Twitter on 1 March[9] and by Russian online tabloid Pravda.ru on 3 March 2022.[15] |
3-Vitaly Gerasimov | Major General | 8 March 2022[16] | Chief of staff of the 41st Combined Arms Army. Allegedly killed outside Kharkiv. Had previously been involved in the Second Chechen War, Russian military intervention in the Syrian civil war, and 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea.[14] CNN said it had not independently verified Gerasimov's death and US officials had not confirmed it.[17] |
